Independent rapid small-scale column testing (RSSCT) compared ion exchange with and without CAST pretreatment ahead of Dow PSR2+ resin. CAST is pretreatment — not a standalone PFAS-removal technology. Numbers below are from the public executive summary; full performance is site-specific and confirmed in a paid pilot.
- PFOS bed life: about 13,767 bed volumes to 4 ng/L with CAST ahead of IX vs under about 1,619 without — more than eightfold longer run length before the USEPA MCL threshold (about 60 days vs 7 days at a 20 GPM design basis).
- PFOA: similar delay in breakthrough at the same 4 ng/L basis in the CAST-plus-IX train.
- Pressure: CAST influent built pressure slowly and ran continuously; without CAST, spikes required close daytime monitoring.
