Flotration didn't start in a coastal lab or a corporate skunkworks. It started in the middle of the country — in a community facing a serious groundwater problem, and a small group of people who refused to wait for someone else to solve it.
The work began at a test well bored to characterize a known plume. There was no treatment plant on that stream. The team connected to the well and ran the water through a mobile unit built as a miniature full plant — a complete treatment train with CAST at the front. Performance on the water was strong. What stood out next was quieter, and more important.
Downstream of CAST, the ion exchange and carbon stages were not taking the wear and loading they normally would. Media that usually bears the brunt of fouling and breakthrough was working under far less stress. That was the moment the company stopped thinking primarily about a portable full train and started seeing the product clearly: CAST as pretreatment — the step that protects and extends everything that follows.
Most serious plants already have those downstream steps. They don't need another complete plant on a trailer. They need a way to make the train they already run last longer and cost less to operate. CAST was the differentiator.
So the team did something unusual for a small-town company with strong pilot data. They didn't load a trailer and knock on doors coast to coast. They took the results to people who live in water every day — operators, engineers, chemists, program managers, and industry advisors — and they listened. They shared what the testing showed, invited scrutiny, and looked for partners who could help carry the work with the rigor the field demands.
That's how Flotration connected with the expertise that now leads and surrounds the company, including CEO and CTO Chris Fetters, and with independent advisors and testing partners who evaluate performance rather than simply endorse a brochure. The principle was simple: don't try to be every kind of expert — surround yourself with them.
Today Flotration's mission is deliberate and commercial: prove CAST on the client's water before anyone commits; tee into the system that's already there instead of selling a teardown; and when performance creates savings, share them. The roots are Midwest. The ambition is global. Small town. Serious technology. Built to scale by listening first.
